At GreenUp Uganda, we’ve started a beautiful new tradition called the Birthday Tree Cake Cutting 🎂🌳—a simple but powerful way to celebrate life while giving back to the planet. Instead of cutting a cake that lasts only a moment, we plant a tree that grows for generations, becoming a living memory of that special day. Each birthday tree is more than just a symbol—it’s a gift to Mother Earth, a step toward cleaner air, and a legacy of love and hope that continues long after the candles are gone. With just $10, anyone can join in and plant a tree for themselves, a friend, or even an entire group, turning birthdays into a chance to make a real difference.

With the Birthday Tree Project, every donated tree becomes personal—because we place the donor’s or celebrant’s name on each tree as a lasting symbol of their special day. To make it even more fun and memorable, we celebrate together with the students by singing a birthday song, sharing joy, and then planting the tree in honor of that life.
Donors and well-wishers will always know their tree has been planted, as we back it up with photos, videos, and stories straight from the celebration. It’s a heartfelt experience that blends tradition, music, and sustainability—turning birthdays into moments of happiness that leave behind something beautiful for the planet.
